Harassment

The Clark County School District’s mission statement includes a provision to “ensure full intellectual and character development of each individual as a responsible citizen.”  The district’s strategic policy states, “We will not tolerate any activity, action, or circumstance that diminishes a person’s dignity.”  Consistent with these statements, any physical, sexual, psychological or verbal abuse of a student by an employee while discharging professional duties is unprofessional conduct and shall result in discipline.

Verbal abuse includes, but is not limited to, the use of any form of profanity in the classroom, on the playing field, or at any time when an employee is in contact with a student while discharging professional duties.

Sexual harassment is generally defined as a repeated or unwanted verbal or physical sexual advance, sexually explicit derogatory statements, or sexually discriminating remarks made by someone in the work place which are offensive, objectionable, or intimidating to the recipient or which cause the recipient discomfort or humiliation or which serve to create an intimidating, hostile working environment.

CCSD Policy 4110 reads in part, “Harassment of an individual, including sexual harassment, will not be tolerated.  All persons can seek employment, attend school, work in security and dignity, and are not required to endure insulting, degrading, harassing, or exploitative treatment.”

CCSD Policy 5141.2 Discriminatory harassment is any verbal, visual, or physical conduct, which is sufficiently severe, persistent or pervasive that it adversely affects, or has the purpose or logical consequence of interfering with the student’s educational program or creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive school atmosphere.  Harassment, whether it is by students, staff, or third parties in the school community, is strictly prohibited, and will subject the perpetrator to disciplinary action.  Harassment, regardless of its basis, is prohibited.
