Overview of Technology in the Classroom

What kind of equipment will I have in my classroom? Each classroom has a desktop computer, a printer, an LCD projector, a document camera, and an audio enhancer (spreads sound evenly through classroom with use of microphone). In addition all core content classrooms have an interactive board (Promethean or SmartBoard). Specialized classrooms have a television and VCR. Equipment is checked out through the library.

Technology Requests (Quicket)

All technology issues related to equipment found in the classroom (projector, sound, cables, desktop computer, loaner laptops, etc.) should be processed through Quicket. The icon for Quicket can be found on the desktop of instructor’s computers. If it is not found on the desktop go to the “Start” menu, click on “All Programs,” click on “CCSD,” and click on “Quicket.” Fill out the information on the form and submit it. It will be sent directly to our campus technician who will help resolve the issue. If it is impossible to send a Quicket from the classroom computer just go to the nearest working computer to fill out the form (be sure it includes your classroom information). You will receive an email confirming your request has been sent and another email once the issue has been resolved.

Technology Integration

You are at the right school to get help with technology integration! We have a highly skilled technology strategist who is happy to do whatever is needed to help you become comfortable with using a variety of devices, apps, and software. The strategist will work with you to design lesson plans, co-teach technology driven lessons in your classroom, and help you learn how to use whatever technology piece you are willing to learn. The strategist understands the pedagogy behind using technology in the classroom and can help you figure out where and how to add these components to your lessons. This year our strategist is Paul Donnelly. He is available on Interact.

Teacher Internet

Our school district maintains a proxy server, which restricts some content. The site technician or the librarian can provide you with assistance in connecting iPads and laptops to the school WIFI system. This information should NOT be given to students as their devices are already set for the school WIFI. Teachers will receive unfiltered access for their own use in the classroom. Remember…the person logged into the device is responsible for the content on the device. Students should NEVER be given access to a computer using a teacher login.

Headphones

Yes, headphones are allowed! In fact, students need their own set of headphones so they can complete work in class when doing online learning. Teachers should create classroom rules to address the appropriate use of headphones within their classroom. Headphones can be purchased through the student store at a reasonable fee (this past year students paid $1.00 for Dollar Store quality headphones through the student store.)

Computer Reimaging

What does computer reimage mean for teachers? On occasion it is necessary to “reimage” computers. The reimaging of a computer erases all the information stored on the device and replaces it with a fresh, updated image to work from. It is similar to getting a new computer. When a reimaging date is announced the affected parties (students and/or teachers) will need to save all items saved on their computer’s desktop or local (C:) drive to their school network account. Anything that is not saved to the network account will be deleted. To do this, one must login to their computer at school. Navigate to “My Computer” on the desktop. Open the folder with the Active Directory (AD) username and save documents. For students the AD username will be their student number. For teachers the AD username will generally be the last 5 characters of the last name plus first initial (what you use to sign onto your computer).
