What is E3?

It is our one-to-one student computer program. Each student at our school receives a Lenovo Thinkpad laptop at the beginning of the year to use. The laptops are our textbooks. Students must have one to be successful at Mack. It is checked out to them to use in school and take home every night. The program allows our students and their family to have access to technology, which might not otherwise be available to them.

Deployment and Check-In

A mass deployment is done just before the beginning of the school year. We encourage all parents with their students to pick up their netbooks at this time. Students who are unable to attend will need to pick up their netbook on designated days after school starts. During deployment, parents will sign necessary forms and students will learn basic laptop functions such as logging in and connecting to the Internet.

What about students who enroll after school starts, when do they receive their netbooks? The school has to wait for their computer login to process to the school location, and then the technician will deploy the netbook to the student. It generally takes about 1 week after a student has enrolled in the school to receive their netbook.

Students who withdraw from the school will be required to turn in their netbook at the time they withdraw. A mass return will be scheduled at the end of the year for the general student body to return their netbooks. During laptop check-in, students will clean their computers while teachers collect and check for damages.

Information on deployment and check-in will be available in Professional Development and on Interact.

Student Internet Access

Do all of our students have Internet access at home? No, not all students have Internet access at home. Many do, but not all. Some local businesses have free WIFI which our students can use. Parents can also sign up for the Cox’s “Connect 2 Compete” program which provides Internet for $9.95 a month by calling 1-855-222-3252. Students may stay after school from 2:30-3:30 for homework help and Wi-Fi access as well.

Laptop Repair

Damaged Laptops

If a student has a damaged laptop, he or she should take the laptop to the library for repair and fill out a “Netbook Repair” form. Students may only take laptops to the library BEFORE or AFTER school or during lunch. Students may not go to the library to turn in a damaged laptop during class. Hand the netbook to the librarian. The librarian will provide the student a link to a video about caring for the laptop computer. The students will need to watch the video on their own time and then take the quiz about the information presented in the video. They will have a fee to pay for repairs (1st repair = $5.00, 2nd repair = $10.00, 3rd repair = $15.00, etc…). Physical damages to the computer will be assessed and students will be billed based on damages. When the netbook has been repaired the student will receive a note telling them to pick up their repaired netbook.

Picking up Repaired Laptops

Students will be notified via Edmodo or they will receive a note when their laptops are ready for pickup. Students may only pick up laptops from the library BEFORE or AFTER school or during lunch. Students may not go to the library to pick up repaired laptop during class. Students will only be given their laptops if they have paid the appropriate fees.

Laptop Repair Fees

The general fee schedule is as follows, but technician will assess damages and give exact fees:

  • Lost charger = $39.00 (for sale in library)

  • Lost charger tail = $5.00 (for sale in library)

  • Keyboard = $50.00

  • LCD screen = $50.00

  • Broken Hinges = $85.00

  • Damaged port and/or case = $190.00

  • Netbook replacement = $450.00

Loaner Laptops

Extra laptops with chargers have been supplied to teachers to assist students that have computers that are being repaired by school technicians. Students who have submitted their netbook for repairs will show on the Netbook Repairs Google Doc. Teachers can request access to this document so they can verify a netbook is in for repairs. If a student is on the repairs list the student may borrow a loaner laptop from the classroom teacher for that class period only. The student will need to check with each teacher throughout the day to borrow a loaner laptop. If the student name is NOT on the Google Doc, the student will need to complete the activity using paper/pencil.

Teachers are responsible for the care of these computers and their chargers. It is good practice to have students sign in and sign out loaner laptops to ensure proper care of the laptops (the librarian can provide suggestions for a system if needed). It is also recommended that instructors quickly check the laptops for damages BEFORE and AFTER students have used them. Damages to these computers will need to be reported through the Quicket system so repairs can be made.

Thinkpads for Teachers

Can teachers borrow a Lenovo Thinkpad as well?  Yes! If you have not yet received one please contact the Librarian. We encourage every teacher on campus to have and use the same type of laptop our students use.

After School Access

How does a student get access to a computer after school so they can do homework? Students can visit the tutoring lab after school to use computers. The lab is open for about 1 hour after school Monday – Thursday. Check with the Main Office for the room number and teacher name.
